The 2024 CSDA Debating season concluded with resounding success for Parramatta Marist High School, and a massive thank you goes out to 58 students who were involved as debaters throughout the season.
The hard work, dedication, and passion of all participants were clearly reflected in the accolades received at last Friday’s Grand Final held at the Australian Catholic University in Strathfield.
Our Year 8 team emerged victorious in the Grand Final, triumphing over Santa Sabina College, Strathfield. This achievement is a testament to the team's exceptional perseverance and teamwork which they have demonstrated throughout the season over the last three months. Congratulations to Arnav P, Nathan M, Finley A, Christian K, Kush J!
Our Year 11 team also performed admirably, finishing as runners-up after a challenging final against St Patrick's College, Campbelltown. Their journey through the competition showcased their dedication and talent throughout this debating season and whilst they did not take out the top prize, they should be commended on making it to the Grand Final stage of the competition. Congratulations to Anthony B, Lucas M, Zachariah K, and Alex L!
A highlight of the season was the awarding of the prestigious Jane Sulis Best and Fairest Award to Parramatta Marist. This award recognises the school that has significantly contributed to the culture of debating, offering assistance and hospitality throughout the season. Parramatta Marist's commitment to fostering a positive and supportive environment for public speaking and debating was celebrated, highlighting the collective effort of the student debaters, student helpers and the PMHS staff.
Parramatta Marist extends its heartfelt gratitude to the numerous student debaters who participated in the 2024 CSDA Debating Competition. We also acknowledge the dedicated students who volunteered their time as helpers for the rounds hosted on-site.
A special note of appreciation is extended to our dedicated staff, led by our Debating Coordinator, Mr. Epondulan. Their efforts in coaching, mentoring, adjudicating, and supporting the 2024 CSDA Debating Competition were invaluable. These competitions would not be possible without their unwavering commitment and dedication. Our staff volunteer their time without any expectation of reward, driven by their desire to provide our young men with the experience and encouragement necessary to excel in their debating experience.
This season's successes are a testament to the contributions of each and every individual involved. Congratulations to all, and thank you for making the 2024 CSDA Debating season a memorable and triumphant experience!
Fortior Ito!
