Upon the start of the game we came out with a strong lead against Trinity, unfortunately by the end of the first half they managed to catch up and ended up having a two-point lead over us. With some hard work, we managed to take a 2 point lead with 2 minutes remaining. In the end, we were able to take a four-point lead and the win. Final score: 27-31.

Captain's Report: Michael Alegado

As captain of the Yr 10 opens basketball team. We played Trinity Auburn who were very strong on the court. In the first half they were leading us as we did struggle a bit and committed some turnovers. Some of us including myself and Zac Palmer were in foul trouble until Coach Mr Alata adjusted our defensive game plan and made some adjustments. Our bench players stepped up such as Jeremiah Bustria hitting three three pointers.  We figured out a way to get good options as a team, trusting each other as teammates and sharing the ball shooting the perfect shots. This was a successful game as we lead ourselves to our very first win throughout the season Score was 28-49.

Round 2 PMH vs Trinity Catholic College at Auburn basketball Stadium
25-10-18
Score: PMH 33-Trinity 30

Round 2 for the B grade team picked up where we left off last week. The first 10 minutes was a testing ground for both teams as they were tentative in taking control of the game. Both teams struggled to gain an upper hand as the defensive structure for both sides were being tested. At the end of the first stanza, PMH was leading by 1 point, 12-11. The half time talk from this coach made encouraged the team to stick at their defensive structure. They changed the defensive structure  at the five minute mark as his team manager Andrew Jerome provided much appreciated analysing and coaching assistant directions. The line-up changed and this coach slotted in Jay Villavicencio into the team. His impact was instantaneous as he scored 14 points down the stretch. Jay’s tenacity and powerful baseline moves at driving the ball to the ring, was instrumental in basketball prowess, helped his team extend their lead.

The pressure was on from the get go with a very vocal Auburn home crowd and 4 victories out of 4 from PMH. The team knew they had to step up especially from last years 17 point defeat. The first half was tight finishing 17 a piece from some great basketball allround from each player in the team. Special mention to Andrei Atienza and RJ Estacio for draining their 3’s to keep up with Auburn’s perimeter shooting. Downside was only making 1 out of 14 free throws.
Another slight drop in intensity similar to last week saw us fall 9 points behind with 10 minutes to go and a few of our bigs in foul trouble. However from a few good handy plays from Miguel Reyes saw us keep creeping back to eventually grab the lead with a minute to go and thanks to our bigs like Omar Nadaya-Harb, Juan Gacis, Shyam Maddi and Liam Richards, we were able to hold them out and dominate the paint.

An all-round good game and every student on the team had a very important part in the 5 point victory.
42-37 Win over Trinity Auburn. Player of the match was Miguel Reyes with his 13 points and sneaky steals and assists.
Juan Gacis takes play of the game with an outstanding block which lifted our intensity.
Special mention to RJ Estacio for having the highest player efficiency rating.

Thursday 25th October marked the start of the MCS Season for cricket as the previous week had been washed out. We played an away game against St Dominic’s. Whilst our first 10 over while bowling were tight, the second 10 overs allowed the opposition to put some runs on the board due to misfields and basic errors. This resulted in us chasing a score of 101. Unfortunately some of the PMH batsman got out cheaply resulting in 52 runs by the 16th over. We fought hard but we were not able to chase down the runs made by St Dominic’s. In the end we scored 6/72. Our side played well and we will only improve with more time spent gelling as a team.

We got Of to a strong start with Marcus Dias getting a wicket in the first over but it was not enough, St Dom’s ended up winning the match by 9 wickets.

Early on in the 14th over Giulio has been run out with the score being at 2/90. Soon after batsman james gibson was caught. After the 16th over it was 3/103. Marist ended the innings score of 4/129 with James Carr topping the order with 71 runs.  After a successful start of 1/0 Marist looked great. Team: Rugby League Summer Training - Mr Woodbine, Mr Culnane, Mr Barry-Donnellan and Mr Brennan

Monty Duncombe 10.1

Week 2 of the rugby league training had us developing our skills we learnt from the previous week. We focused on ball grip, controlling the ruck, our passing technique as well as getting close in the tackle. As the year 8's were at the Invictus games we were short on numbers, but we worked around it. Mr Brennan had us split up into 3 groups. All 3 groups were doing 3 different skill drills. Mr Culnane was running a drill which involved us getting up nice and close into the tackle. This meant getting our foot up nice and close, then driving through using our shoulder. The next group was focusing on controlling the ruck with Mr Brennan. He had us getting down on the floor with 3 defenders on top off one ball player. Once the tackle has been completed we worked on getting back to the defensive line as well as having the 2 markers up and ready to go as soon as the ball is played. Also a few boys came away from this drill knowing that Mr Brennan can make you really uncomfortable when in a tackle! Mr Barry was running the third and final drill which had us focusing on our passing technique, which involved us using the correct foot when passing as well as getting the ball through our hands quickly without any errors. After everyone had rotated through all the drills we finished off with a couple fun little games, which are alway enjoyable and so much fun.

Can’t wait till next week!
